The US president boasts on Truth Social that he predicted and ridiculed Tehran’s retaliation: “Weak response, no casualties”. Meanwhile, international dissent mounts

Donald Trump is truly a reckless, arrogant and truly unbearable person with his bullying behaviour. This is the tone with which, without waiting for the crisis to end, the US president commented on Iran’s response to the American attack on Tehran’s nuclear sites. He did so with a barrage of posts on Truth Social, beginning with a thank you to the enemy: “Thank you to Iran for warning us in advance of its very weak response. Now, peace and harmony”.

The reference is to the launch of 14 missiles against the American base at Al Udeid in Qatar, the largest US military installation in the Middle East. According to Trump, “13 were shot down and 1 was left alone because it was headed for a non-dangerous area”. The president emphatically stated: “No Americans were hurt, no damage, everything went according to plan”.

The social media deluge
Over the course of several hours, the president published a series of increasingly triumphant posts, thanking the Emir of Qatar and promising that ‘from now on, it will be a time of peace.’ To those who criticised him for the recklessness of the pre-emptive strike, he responded aggressively: “The sites we hit in Iran were completely destroyed, and everyone knows it”. This statement contrasts with what has emerged so far from independent sources, according to which the damage – particularly to the Fordow nuclear facility, dug 90 metres underground – cannot yet be assessed with certainty.

A provocative communication
No institutional message, no official press conference: Trump chose the path of sarcasm and public humiliation at the most delicate moment in the confrontation between Washington and Tehran. Among the most emblematic posts: “Congratulations world, it’s time for peace”, all in capital letters, as if to close a conflict that remains wide open.

Diplomacy or humiliation?
The thanks given to Iran for the “advance warning” of the attack, the praise for not causing any casualties and the self-celebration as a leader of peace appear, in reality, to be a strategy of derision: a clear message to Tehran, but also a warning to anyone who wants to question American power. The White House has called the operation a “resounding success”, but the international community is watching with growing concern the climate of escalation and tension that risks further inflaming the Middle East.

The incredible thing is that there will be many more such behaviours, given that he still has three and a half years left in the White House. How to send the respectable institutions of a country like America to hell.
