Protests against Netanyahu’s government continue to grow, fuelled by removal of security leaders and violence in Gaza

Clashes between Israeli police and protesters occurred today near Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s private residence in Jerusalem. The protests, which have been ongoing for a week, were triggered by the government’s decision to sack the head of Shin Bet, Ronen Bar, and the attorney general, Gali Baharav-Miara, along with the resumption of violence in Gaza.

According to the police, three protesters were arrested during demonstrations on Azza Street when they tried to break through protective barriers near Netanyahu’s house. The security forces responded with force, pushing the protesters away and knocking some of them to the ground. One protester reportedly hit a Border Police officer, but no serious injuries were reported.

The protests, which were attended by thousands of people, represent yet another demonstration against Netanyahu’s government, with increased tensions within and along the border with Gaza.
