Taipei reports increased military pressure from Beijing

Taiwan has reported a new incursion by Chinese forces, noting the presence of 9 aircraft, 6 military ships and 2 coast guard units near the island in the last 24 hours. In addition, 6 Chinese balloons were spotted, instruments that Beijing increasingly employs for surveillance and reconnaissance operations.

According to the Ministry of Defence in Taipei, nine jets crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait, penetrating the airspace of Defence Identification (Adiz) in the southwestern sector. China continues to insist that the island is an ‘inalienable’ part of its territory and maintains the possibility of military intervention to bring it back under its control.
