Robert Kennedy Jr. backs down on vaccines after measles deaths

After the deaths of two children from measles, US Health Secretary now supports the Mpr vaccine as a preventive tool

US Health Secretary Robert Kennedy Jr. has changed his position on the issue of vaccines, stating that the Mpr vaccine is the best way to prevent the spread of measles. His reversal comes after two children died from measles in Texas, where the highest number of cases in the US have been recorded.

Kennedy revealed in ‘X’ that 499 of the 642 confirmed cases are in Texas. The secretary travelled to Gaines County to express his condolences to the families of the two victims. The most recent, 8-year-old Daisy Hildebrand, died last week, while Kayley Fehr, 6, had also died in February. Both belonged to the Mennonite community.

In addition, Kennedy recounted that he had met two doctors who had treated about 300 Mennonite children with unconventional remedies, such as budesonide and clarithromycin in aerosols, but these treatments are not scientifically proven. The secretary, however, emphasised efforts to strengthen the health response, with the deployment of a CDC team to distribute Mpr vaccines and other medicines in Texas.
