Midwest Tornadoes Cause Two Deaths and Widespread Damage
Severe tornadoes hit Indiana, Illinois, and surrounding states, destroying homes, downing power lines, and prompting safety alerts
A series of tornadoes swept across the Midwest of the United States, leaving two people dead and causing extensive damage. The hardest-hit area stretches from Indiana to Illinois, where high winds and heavy rain killed an elderly couple in a town along the state border.
Numerous homes were flattened, streets rendered impassable, and over seventy power poles were toppled. Several residents became trapped in their houses as the storm moved through the region.
Authorities have issued tornado warnings for parts of Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, and Ohio, urging residents to stay off the roads and seek shelter in secure areas. Officials also expressed concern over large hail, reporting that some hailstones exceeded five inches (12 centimeters) in diameter.
Residents are being advised to follow safety protocols closely and remain in protected locations until the storm system passes. Emergency teams are actively responding to the affected areas to assist those trapped and to restore power and access.
