Palestinian group offers truce and disarmament for release of hostages, but Israel responds by cutting electricity to Gaza

Hamas has proposed a 5-10 year truce, accompanied by disarmament and the exchange of prisoners, according to US envoy Adam Boehler. The agreement would require the US and other nations to monitor the absence of tunnels and Hamas’s future non-interference in politics. Boehler called the proposal a ‘good first offer’, while reassuring Israel about the Trump administration’s commitment to the release of both American and Israeli hostages.

Meanwhile, Israeli Minister Eli Cohen ordered the suspension of electricity supply to the Gaza Strip as a form of pressure on Hamas, which still holds 59 people hostage. Israel accuses Hamas of refusing an extension of the ceasefire agreement, while the Palestinian group denounces the measure as ‘unacceptable blackmail’.

Hamas reacted sharply, claiming that Israel is trying to pressure the population of Gaza through coercive tactics, while the White House, in coordination with Israel, is working on a plan to facilitate the voluntary migration of Palestinians from the region.
