Operation ‘Gideon’s Chariots 2’ set to last for months, Hamas accuses leaders of wanting to flee

The Israeli army has deployed hundreds of tanks, armoured vehicles and bulldozers along the northern border of the Gaza Strip, in preparation for the conquest of Gaza City. This was reported by military sources cited by Ynet, according to which the operation, called “Gideon’s Chariots 2”, will be led by regular infantry units with the support of brigades already deployed around the city.

Gradual and lengthy offensive
Israeli generals are planning a gradual action that is expected to last at least three or four months. According to estimates, thousands of Hamas militants remain barricaded in the centre of Gaza and in the al-Mawasi refugee camps, ready to resist without surrendering.

Attempts by Hamas leaders to flee
General Rassan Alian, coordinator of the Israeli Authority for the Palestinian Territories (Cogat), stated on Facebook in Arabic that some senior Hamas civilian officials had attempted to leave the Strip via the Israeli evacuation mechanism. Among the names mentioned were Hamas government minister Mohammad Madhoun, Foreign Affairs Committee chairman Ismail Ashkar and government committee head Alaa al-Din Batta. Israel rejected the requests. ‘While Hamas tells you not to move south, its leaders are trying to flee. They are using you as human shields,’ Alian said.
