Two KF-16 planes of the South Korean Air Force hit a civilian area during an exercise: serious condition of two people
A military exercise in South Korea threatened to turn into a tragedy when a jet accidentally bombed a civilian area, injuring 15 people. The incident occurred in the city of Pocheon, near the border with North Korea, during an operation involving two KF-16 planes of the South Korean Air Force, which took off at 10:04am.
The target was to hit a designated exercise area, but the pilot mistakenly entered the wrong coordinates, dropping eight MK-82 bombs that hit a church. Two people suffered serious injuries to their necks and shoulders. Among the injured, a 60-year-old man, while driving his car, was hit by shrapnel in the neck: ‘I was driving, I heard an explosion. When I woke up, I was in the ambulance,’ he told the BBC.
The South Korean armed forces confirmed the incident, explaining that the bombs were dropped ‘abnormally’ and outside the designated area.
