British monarch appeals for unity and world peace at ceremony in Westminster Abbey

Today, King Charles and Princess Kate of Wales resume their official engagements at the Commonwealth Day Service of Celebration after missing the event last year due to cancer treatments.

During the annual ceremony at Westminster Abbey in London, Charles will deliver a message of unity, drawing attention to ‘uncertain times’ and the importance of ‘restoring harmony’. His appeal to the 56 nations of the Commonwealth comes against a backdrop of global tensions, with negotiations underway for a ceasefire in Ukraine. The king will emphasise that differences should be seen not as problems, but as a source of strength and learning opportunities.

Members of the royal family attending the ceremony include Catherine Middleton, the Princess of Wales, who will join Prince William, Queen Camilla, Princess Anne, Prince Richard, the Duke of Gloucester and Birgitte, the Duchess of Gloucester. This year’s theme, ‘Together We Thrive’, celebrates the spirit of the Commonwealth, with over 2,000 guests present to commemorate the event.
