Shooting Reported at Temple Israel Synagogue in Michigan, attacker has been killed
Update: the attacker has been killed, there are no reports of other injuries inside the Jewish complex
An active shooting is underway at Temple Israel in West Bloomfield Township, Michigan, which also houses a Jewish school. Michigan police reported responding to an armed individual on the premises.
The FBI has arrived at the synagogue to assist local authorities in managing the situation. FBI Director Kash Patel stated on X that, in addition to an armed suspect, a vehicle reportedly drove toward the synagogue.
Videos circulating on social media show dozens of police vehicles surrounding the complex. West Bloomfield Police, the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, and the Michigan State Police are all on the scene. Emergency personnel are working to evacuate the synagogue, and smoke has been seen coming from the building.
The Jewish Federation of Detroit has advised all Jewish organizations in the area to implement a lockout protocol, instructing that no one enter or leave their facilities during the incident.
