Kim Jong-un oversees new anti-aircraft missile test amid rising tensions with US

North Korean leader oversees anti-aircraft missile test as South Korea and the US conclude ‘Freedom Shield’ exercises. Pyongyang criticises Donald Trump’s return to the White House

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has supervised a new test of the anti-aircraft missile system, amid growing tension on the Korean peninsula. According to the Kcna news agency, the test demonstrated the rapid response capability and reliability of the system, further strengthening North Korea’s defence capabilities.

Criticism of US-South Korea exercises and references to Trump’s return

Kim expressed gratitude to the research team and the munitions industry for their contribution to national defence. At the same time, Pyongyang sharply criticised the joint US-South Korean military exercises, which it called an invasion attempt, and linked the escalation of tensions to Donald Trump’s return to the White House.

The manoeuvres, dubbed the ‘Freedom Shield’, have been strongly contested by North Korea, which has warned that provocations by hostile forces will not go unanswered.
