Crans-Montana fire apology: Deputy Mayor addresses victims’ families

Nicole Bonvin Clivaz issues a Crans-Montana fire apology and comments on municipal response after the New Year’s Eve tragedy

Crans-Montana continues to deal with the aftermath of the New Year’s Eve tragedy. Deputy Mayor Nicole Bonvin Clivaz issued a Crans-Montana fire apology, telling Swiss television RTS: “We extend our apologies and ask forgiveness from all families grieving and suffering from this loss.”

The remarks addressed criticism toward Mayor Nicolas Féraud, who had not publicly offered apologies regarding safety oversights at the venue where the fire occurred. Bonvin Clivaz emphasized that a Crans-Montana fire apology was necessary: “In the heat of the moment, we are clumsy; it is not common to face such a situation. It took a great deal of courage to manage it, and more courage will still be required.” She added that the municipality bears responsibility in the ongoing investigation: “We have a responsibility for this shortcoming, and we do not yet have the full answers.”

Regarding resignations, Bonvin Clivaz confirmed the municipal government will continue its work: “This issue does not arise at all. On the contrary, we are working hard. Every day, we receive offensive emails at the town hall. But it is understandable and normal. We will correct our course. We made mistakes, and now we will do the right thing,” concluding the Crans-Montana fire apology statement.

Meanwhile, Jacques Moretti, the manager of Le Constellation bar in Crans-Montana, was placed under preventive detention yesterday as the investigation into the fire continues.
