Seoul confirms the withdrawal of North Korean troops from the Kursk region after heavy losses. Russian missiles on Izium, four dead. Six wounded, including five children, in drone attack in Zaporizhzhia
North Korean soldiers deployed in Russia have reportedly withdrawn from the front line. This was confirmed by South Korean intelligence, which corroborates rumours already circulated by Ukrainian and American sources. According to Seoul’s National Intelligence Service (NIS), since mid-January there have been no signs of the presence of Pyongyang troops in the Kursk region. The decision is said to be linked to the heavy losses suffered: according to data collected by Seoul, of the approximately 12,000 troops sent by Kim Jong-un’s regime, at least 300 are said to be dead and 2,700 wounded. A more detailed assessment is still underway to determine the exact causes of the withdrawal.
Meanwhile, Russia continues to strike Ukraine. A missile attack devastated the centre of Izium, killing at least four people and injuring 20 civilians, according to regional governor Oleg Synegoubov. The raid was allegedly conducted with a ballistic missile.
Moscow also denounced a drone attack by the Ukrainians in the occupied area of Zaporizhzhia. According to Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, a drone hit a school bus in Vasilievski, injuring six people, including five children. The pro-Russian governor Yevgeni Balitski called the incident ‘a terrorist act against civilians’.
