A new episode of violence has shaken Germany. Less than two weeks after the attack on the Christmas market in Magdeburg, where five people lost their lives, a man armed with a knife attacked passers-by in Berlin this morning. The incident took place around 11.50 a.m. in the Charlottenburg district.
According to the Bild newspaper, the attacker seriously injured two people before being stopped and arrested by the police. However, the man, identified as a Syrian citizen living in Sweden, was not linked to any terrorist groups. In fact, the police stated that the attacker may be suffering from mental disorders: ‘Initial findings indicate that the suspect may have signs of mental illness,’ investigators said.
At the moment, the incident is being treated as an attempted manslaughter, and investigators have ruled out a terrorist matrix.
