Donald Trump, elected president of the United States in November 2024, faces a significant drop in popularity in the first months of his second term. According to a CNN poll, 52 percent of Americans disapprove of his administration, while only 48 percent approve. This trend signals a reversal from the initial enthusiasm that characterized his election.
The polls, which include a survey conducted before the diplomatic conflict between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, show a gradual erosion of popular support for the president. According to the FiveThirtyEight polling average, on Jan. 24, 2025, 49.7 percent of Americans expressed approval toward Trump, while 41.5 percent disapproved of him. By the end of February, this percentage had dropped to 47.7 percent, with unpopularity rising to 47 percent.
Trump, in this new climate of little enthusiasm about his first steps in his second term, is preparing to deliver his first official address to Congress, in which he will share his visions for the legislative future. This speech will not technically be the State of the Union speech, but a time to outline his agenda for the country, as outlined by House Speaker Mike Johnson.
