US, Pam Bondi confirmed as Attorney General by the Senate
The former Florida prosecutor will lead the Justice Department in the Trump administration
Pam Bondi last night received the OK from the Senate as Attorney General of the United States. With 54 votes in favour and 46 against, the Senate approved her nomination, entrusting her to lead the Justice Department under the Trump administration. The 59-year-old, a former Florida attorney general, will play a key role in the reorganisation of the department, which recently reduced the number of prosecutors and FBI agents involved in the investigation into the 6 January 2021 assault on the Capitol.
Bondi’s confirmation also saw the support of Democratic Senator John Fetterman. With a ten-year career in the judiciary, he had already defended Trump during the first impeachment trial.
