ArBat battalion founder hit by deflagration, Russian authorities speak of possible attack
An explosion rocked the ‘Scarlet Sails’ residential complex in Moscow today, seriously injuring Armen Sargsyan, founder of the ArBat special forces battalion engaged in the conflict against Ukraine. His bodyguard died in the attack.
At first, the Russian media had reported Sargsyan’s death, but later the Ria Novosti agency clarified that the man is in intensive care in critical condition. According to law enforcement sources, he will have to have a leg amputated.
The Russian authorities have opened an investigation into the incident and suspect a murder plot. The Tass news agency reports that the secret services are working to clarify the dynamics of the explosion, while Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said it was impossible to give official comments at the moment.
Sargsyan is known for his involvement in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine and has been wanted by authorities in Kiev since 2015. He also leads the Donetsk People’s Republic Boxing Federation. The explosion that struck him may be part of a series of targeted attacks against prominent figures linked to the war.
