Arson attacks on Keir Starmer: possible hand of Russian intelligence

After three arsons linked to the British PM, Scotland Yard and Whitehall leadership consider Russian direction behind the involvement of Eastern Europeans

British security is investigating possible Russian intelligence involvement in three arson attacks on properties linked to Prime Minister Keir Starmer. This was reported by the Financial Times, citing UK government sources.

The incidents took place in recent days and involved the PM’s family home in Kentish Town, North London, a car and another property previously owned by him. The authorities arrested and charged three foreign nationals – two Ukrainian and one Romanian – with conspiracy to commit arson with intent to endanger life.

Alleged recruitment by Moscow

According to Scotland Yard, the group allegedly acted in collaboration with “other unknown persons”, and among the leads followed by investigators is that of possible recruitment by Russian agents. The Whitehall leadership does not rule out a targeted operation of political destabilisation, in a European context already marked by growing alarms about external interference.

Prosecutor Sarah Przybylska called the alleged conspiracy “inexplicable” in its methods and aims, leaving open any hypothesis on the motive. Even the anti-terrorist police, who are conducting the investigation, have not yet released any conclusive elements.

Starmer: ‘An attack on democracy’

Prime Minister Keir Starmer commented harshly on the incidents, calling them “an attack on all of us, on democracy and the values we stand for”. The Labour leader’s words underline the seriousness of the case, which is taking on disturbing contours and could have repercussions for national security.

The investigation is ongoing and the authorities are maintaining the utmost confidentiality, but there are fears that the intimidation could represent a new front of hybrid pressure against the British government.
