Melania Trump denies Epstein ties, victims accuse her of deflection
First lady rejects any link to the financier and calls for a hearing, while survivors say her remarks shift responsibility away from those in power
Melania Trump denies Epstein ties and pushes back forcefully against allegations linking her to the disgraced financier, drawing sharp criticism from a group of survivors who accuse her of deflecting responsibility.
In a statement, the victims said the first lady’s remarks “protect those who hold power” and shift the burden onto those who have already come forward. They argued that survivors of Jeffrey Epstein had shown “extraordinary courage” by filing complaints and giving testimony, and that asking more of them now amounts to avoiding accountability rather than delivering justice.
The criticism also extends beyond Melania Trump’s comments. The group pointed to Pam Bondi, the former attorney general dismissed by President Donald Trump, saying attention is being diverted from unresolved questions. According to the statement, Bondi must answer for allegedly withheld documents and the disclosure of survivors’ identities—failures they say continue to endanger lives while shielding those responsible.
Melania Trump, however, categorically denied any involvement in Epstein’s activities. Speaking to reporters, she said she had “no relationship with Epstein” and had never been introduced to her husband, Donald Trump, by him. She also stated she had no knowledge of Epstein’s illegal conduct.
“The lies linking me to the disgraceful Jeffrey Epstein must end today,” she said, accusing those spreading such claims of lacking “ethics, humility, and respect.” She further warned against misinformation circulating online, including images and narratives she described as entirely false.
Trump reiterated that she was never aware of Epstein’s abuse of victims and had no involvement of any kind. Her remarks came after images resurfaced showing her alongside Donald Trump and Epstein at New York high-society events.
She also emphasized that she has never been formally accused or convicted of any crimes related to sex trafficking, abuse, or other offenses associated with Epstein.
In closing, the first lady urged Congress to hold a public hearing, calling for survivors to be given the opportunity to testify under oath.
