A lawsuit over the White House ballroom project has prompted a sharp and lengthy response from President Donald Trump, who vented his anger in a long post on his Truth Social platform. The president said he is being sued over plans to build a large new ballroom at the White House, a project he describes as a major private gift to the United States.
In his message, Trump said that alongside his duties as president, he is overseeing the construction of what he called one of the largest and most beautiful ballrooms in the world. He claimed the project is being funded with more than $300 million from what he referred to as “Great American Patriots,” stressing that no taxpayer money is involved. Trump added that the initiative has been coordinated from the outset with the U.S. military and the Secret Service.
According to Trump, the ballroom is intended to address what he described as a long-standing need at the White House. He said previous administrations had wanted such a space for more than 150 years, arguing that major state events, dinners, meetings, conferences, and future inaugurations should no longer rely on temporary and unsafe structures set up on the White House lawn. The president framed the project as a gift worth between $300 million and $400 million, depending on the scope and quality of the interior finishes.
Trump said the lawsuit over the White House ballroom project was filed by what he labeled the “Radical Left National Trust for Historic Preservation,” accusing the group of acting against the country’s interests. He argued that key materials and components, including structural steel, windows, doors, climate systems, marble, stone, precast concrete, bulletproof glass, and anti-drone protections, have already been ordered or are ready to be ordered, making any reversal impractical.
“It’s too late,” Trump wrote, questioning why the legal action was not brought earlier. He said Congress never attempted to stop the ballroom project and that the plans were well known. He also dismissed concerns about changes to the East Wing, arguing that it has been modified repeatedly over the years and no longer resembles the original structure.
Addressing critics who describe themselves as conservationists, Trump said they should not be allowed to block what he called a desperately needed addition to the White House. He maintained that presidents have never required special permission to modify or improve the building, regardless of the scale or importance of the changes.
Trump concluded by saying that the lawsuit over the White House ballroom project has already revealed sensitive details about the involvement of the military and the Secret Service, information he said should have remained classified. Halting construction at this stage, he warned, would be devastating for the White House, the country, and all parties involved.
