The cause of death has not been disclosed, though U.S. media report that Mueller suffered from Parkinson’s disease.
Robert Mueller became FBI director one week before the September 11, 2001 attacks and served in that role for 12 years. He later served as Special Counsel, leading the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election, which resulted in Trump’s victory.
The president posted on the social media platform Ttruth: “Robert Mueller just died. Good, I’m happy he’s dead. He can’t hurt innocent people anymore.” The remarks immediately drew criticism across political circles and U.S. media outlets, highlighting the controversial nature of his message.
