Maduro Trump call: Venezuelan president confirms November phone conversation

Nicolás Maduro says the exchange with Donald Trump lasted ten minutes and signals openness to dialogue on oil, drug trafficking and economic cooperation

The Maduro Trump call took place in November and lasted approximately ten minutes. This was confirmed by Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro in an interview broadcast on state television network Vtv, after Donald Trump claimed he had spoken “very recently” with his Venezuelan counterpart.

According to Maduro, the Maduro Trump call occurred on Friday, November 21, when Trump contacted him from the White House. The Venezuelan president described the exchange as “very respectful,” while adding that “the developments that followed were not pleasant.”

Despite tensions, Maduro reiterated his readiness to engage in dialogue with Washington, stating that “it is necessary to begin talking seriously.” He avoided commenting on a purported U.S. operation mentioned in recent days but emphasized that diplomatic engagement remains a priority.

During the interview, Maduro outlined potential areas of cooperation following the Maduro Trump call. “If they want to seriously discuss an agreement to combat drug trafficking, we are ready,” he said. He also highlighted Venezuela’s openness to U.S. investment in the oil sector, referencing existing cooperation with Chevron.

“If they want oil, Venezuela is ready for U.S. investments, whenever they want, wherever they want, and however they want,” Maduro stated, adding that the country is also open to economic development agreements as part of a broader normalization of relations.
