Trump Lifts Restrictions: Ukraine Can Now Strike Targets Inside Russia
The Trump administration authorizes Ukraine to use long-range missiles against Russian territory, marking a major strategic shift reported by The Wall Street Journal
A dramatic turn in the war in Ukraine: the Trump administration has lifted a key restriction on the use of long-range missiles provided by Western allies, allowing Kyiv to strike targets inside Russia. The news, revealed by The Wall Street Journal, signals a major strategic shift in U.S. policy.
According to U.S. officials cited by the paper, this decision enables Ukraine to intensify its attacks against the Kremlin and increase military pressure on Moscow. Just yesterday, Ukrainian forces used a UK-supplied Storm Shadow cruise missile to hit a Russian plant in Bryansk producing explosives and rocket fuel, as confirmed by Ukraine’s General Staff on social media.
The U.S. move comes after authority to approve such strikes was recently transferred from Secretary of War Pete Hegseth to General Alexus Grynkewich, the top U.S. officer in Europe and NATO commander.
Meanwhile, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced a further tightening of economic measures against Moscow: “We will announce either after Wall Street closes today or first thing tomorrow morning a significant escalation of sanctions on Russia,” he told reporters at the White House.
