Brigitte Macron defends her identity in court against Owens

The First Lady and her husband Emmanuel Macron will present photographic and scientific evidence in the United States to refute the false claims of Candace Owens, who has been claiming for years that Brigitte was born male

Brigitte Macron and French President Emmanuel Macron intend to assert the truth about the First Lady in a defamation lawsuit in the United States against right-wing influencer Candace Owens. The lawsuit stems from Owens’ repeated claims that Brigitte Macron was born male.

According to the couple’s lawyer, Tom Clare, photographic and scientific evidence will be presented in court to support the truth. Clare explained that the allegations also have an impact on President Macron, adding that the First Lady is prepared to undergo this public scrutiny in order to clarify the matter.

The US lawsuit follows a previous court case in France, where the Macrons won against two French bloggers in 2024, but the ruling was overturned on appeal in 2025 on grounds of freedom of expression, without addressing the merits of the allegations.

Clare specified that the documentation will be presented in accordance with US legal standards and will serve to demonstrate clearly and unequivocally that Owens’ statements are false.

Candace Owens, known for her conservative views, had already stated that she believes her statements to be true and defends her freedom of expression. The Macrons, however, insist on the need to defend the reputation of the première dame and their family’s integrity.
