The Taiwanese army reacts with immediate drills while China imposes airspace restrictions and deploys warships around the island

Taiwan has declared a state of ‘high alert’ for its military, initiating drills to combat any imminent threats after detecting a significant increase in Chinese warships and coast guard vessels in the waters surrounding the island. These manoeuvres are also a reaction to the Chinese military’s recent restrictions on airspace along the country’s coastline.

In the early hours of today, China launched large-scale naval and air operations in an area stretching hundreds of kilometres from its coastline to the western Pacific. Chinese civil aviation authorities issued a partial airspace restriction notice, limited between the cities of Shanghai and Guangdong Province, until 11 December, warning of imminent military activity.

According to Taiwanese sources, about 100 Chinese ships are reportedly active in the waters around the island.

China continues to regard Taiwan as an integral part of its territory, reiterating the threat of forced annexation by military means if Taipei does not agree to submit to Beijing’s control permanently.
