‘Earthquake’ at the FDA: forced resignation of Peter Marks and accusations against Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

The head of vaccine evaluation at the FDA resigns, accusing the Health Secretary of misinformation

A major shake-up has hit the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), with the forced resignation of Peter Marks, until now head of the Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research, in charge of evaluating the efficacy and safety of vaccines. According to US media reports, Marks decided to leave his post after being accused of not aligning himself with the new leadership of the US Department of Health and Human Services, headed by Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

The news of Marks’ resignation was given by the “Wall Street Journal”, which also revealed the harsh words expressed by the official in his farewell letter. Marks directly accused Kennedy Jr. of wanting to ‘undermine confidence in vaccines’, calling such behaviour ‘irresponsible’ and ‘detrimental to public health’. He also criticised the secretary for not seeking truth and transparency, but rather for wanting to ‘confirm his misinformation and lies’.

In response, a Health Department official told CNN that if Marks was unwilling to support ‘restoring science to its gold standard’, there was no place for him at the FDA under the leadership of Kennedy Jr. Marks, leaving with a ‘heavy heart’, expressly expressed concern about the growing measles epidemic in Texas, seeing it as a direct consequence of the loss of trust in science.

In a further complicating context, it has emerged that David Geier, a controversial figure for his theories on the link between vaccines and autism, has joined the Department of Health to conduct a study on this issue, despite the fact that the scientific community has long denied such claims. Geier, along with his father Mark Geier, has been at the centre of several controversies, including practising medicine without a licence and the suspension of his father’s medical licence.
