Six dead in night raids in Jabalia and Nuseirat. Ballistic missile from the Houthis towards Israel intercepted by the army

The spiral of violence in the Gaza Strip does not stop. In the night between Saturday and Sunday, six people were killed in new Israeli raids in the north and centre of the territory. According to Mahmud Bassal, a spokesman for the Civil Defence, five of the victims were in a collapsed house in Jabalia, while a drone struck displaced people’s tents near Nuseirat, causing another death.

The Israeli army, which has stepped up the offensive by talking of a ‘new push’ to crush Hamas, reported that it has carried out more than 100 attacks in the last 24 hours. The Gaza Health Ministry updated the death toll to 3,747 since the ceasefire broke down on 18 March, bringing the total death toll since the beginning of the conflict to 53,901, mostly civilians.

At the same time, the alert level in Israel also rose: alarm sirens sounded in the Jerusalem area, in the southern West Bank and near the Dead Sea, following the launch of a ballistic missile from Yemen. The Israeli army confirmed the interception of the device, attributed to Iranian-backed Houthi rebels. Shortly before the sirens, a warning had been sent to civilians.

Since the start of the new offensive on Gaza on 18 March, the Houthis have launched 39 ballistic missiles and at least 10 drones towards Israel. Some of them fell before reaching Israeli territory.
