Kevin Spacey reaches settlement in London civil assault cases
Out-of-court deal with three accusers halts trial over alleged abuse
Kevin Spacey has reached an out-of-court settlement with three men who filed civil lawsuits accusing him of sexual assault, avoiding a trial in London that had been scheduled for later this year, according to the BBC.
The claims concerned alleged incidents between 2000 and 2013. Terms of the agreement have not been disclosed.
Spacey has consistently denied all allegations. In 2023, he was acquitted in a criminal trial in the United Kingdom involving complaints brought by several men.
Following that case, two of the accusers pursued civil actions before the High Court in London. One claimant had initially filed a lawsuit in 2022, which was later paused during the criminal proceedings. The man, whose identity is protected by the court, alleged he suffered “psychiatric injury and other financial losses” linked to an incident said to have occurred in August 2008.
Another claimant alleged he was assaulted 12 times between 2000 and 2005.
A third man, Ruari Cannon, chose to waive anonymity. He alleged that Spacey groped him at a party in 2013 while he was performing at the Old Vic theatre, where Spacey served as artistic director. Cannon later described his account in Channel 4’s 2024 documentary series “Spacey Unmasked.”
Responding to the allegations, Spacey said that whenever he had been given the opportunity to defend himself, the claims had not held up and he had been cleared.
Separately, Spacey was sued in New York in 2022 by actor Anthony Rapp over an alleged sexual assault, but a jury found him not liable.
