Thousands gather in Birmingham to bid farewell to Ozzy Osbourne, Black Sabbath legend

An emotional funeral procession passed through the rock star’s hometown, accompanied by flowers, music and tributes from fans and family

Birmingham paid tribute to Ozzy Osbourne, the iconic voice of Black Sabbath, who passed away on 22 July at the age of 76. Thousands of fans gathered to say their final farewell to the “Prince of Darkness”, taking part in a funeral procession that wound its way through the city’s most symbolic streets. The route passed Broad Street and Black Sabbath Bridge, both of which were filled with flowers and messages dedicated to the rock legend.

The symbolic stop at the Black Sabbath bench
The procession stopped at the bench dedicated to Black Sabbath, which has become a place of reflection and remembrance: in recent days, thousands of fans have left flowers, balloons and handwritten letters there, expressing their affection and gratitude for Osbourne’s music and legacy. It was in Birmingham, on 5 July, that Ozzy performed for the last time, with the “Back To The Beginning” concert event at Villa Park, before his passing.

Family and music for a private farewell
Leading the funeral procession was the visibly moved Osbourne family: his wife Sharon and their three children Kelly, Aimee and Jack attended the ceremony accompanied by the musicians of the Bostin Brass band. The band played some of Black Sabbath’s most famous songs, including the legendary “Iron Man”. Before entering the private funeral, Sharon Osbourne laid flowers and waved affectionately to the gathered fans.

The coffin amid tributes and silence
Ozzy’s coffin, decorated with numerous flowers, was transported in a black car escorted by police along the funeral route. Among the fans present, some threw sunflowers and red roses on the bonnet, symbols of respect and love for the singer who made rock history worldwide.
