Pope Francis, condition improving after 12-day hospitalization for pneumonia

Pontiff continues to show signs of recovery, but prognosis remains reserved

Rome – The condition of Pope Francis, who has been hospitalized for 12 days for bilateral pneumonia, continues to improve. The latest bulletin released by the Vatican confirms that “the Holy Father’s clinical conditions in the last 24 hours have shown a further, slight improvement,” specifying that the mild renal insufficiency, detected in recent days, has completely receded.

According to the update, the chest CT scan performed the previous evening showed “a normal evolution of the pulmonary inflammatory picture,” while blood tests confirm the improvements already observed the day before. Pope Francis is continuing high-flow oxygen therapy and, for the second consecutive day, did not manifest asthmatic respiratory crisis. Respiratory physiotherapy is also continuing. Despite the positive signs, the prognosis remains reserved.

In the morning, the pontiff received the Eucharist and spent the afternoon engaged in his usual work activities, a sign of a gradual return to his daily functions.
