Former US President Jimmy Carter died: he was 100 years old
The oldest Nobel Peace Prize-winning former US president passed away at his home in Plains, Georgia
Former US President Jimmy Carter has died at the age of 100 at his home in Plains, Georgia. The news was confirmed by his son, James E. Carter III. Carter, who was elected to the White House in 1976, was the oldest living former president in the country’s history.
During his term in office, Carter was the protagonist of major international events such as the signing of the Camp David Accords between Egypt and Israel, but his presidency was also marked by the energy crisis and national humiliation over the Iran hostage crisis. Defeated by Ronald Reagan in 1980, he then devoted the rest of his life to promoting peace and development through the Carter Center, a commitment that earned him the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002.
