The love affair between Trump and Musk is definitely over: ‘I’m disappointed,’ says the president VIDEO

The president responds to the tycoon’s criticism of the ‘Big Beautiful Bill’: ‘It’s the biggest tax cut in history, Musk knew everything from the start.’ Tensions after Musk’s departure from the Department of Government Efficiency

‘I am very disappointed in Elon. I don’t know if we will still have a great relationship.’ Donald Trump publicly breaks with Elon Musk after days of tension following the Tesla and SpaceX founder’s harsh criticism of the ‘Big Beautiful Bill,’ the law that symbolises Trump’s fiscal policy.

‘I’ve always liked Elon,’ said the president from the Oval Office, ’I prefer him to criticise me. But that law is extraordinary: it’s the biggest tax cut in American history, we’re doing incredible things for the people, for the middle class, for small businesses. No one has ever seen anything like it.’

Musk, who until a few weeks ago was close to the administration, left his position as head of the Doge, the Department of Government Efficiency, at the end of May, criticising the sustainability of the law for public finances.

According to Trump, the decision to revoke the federal mandate protecting the sale of electric vehicles was also at the root of the discontent: ‘Elon knew that from the beginning, nothing has changed. I know it bothered him. He wanted to be appointed head of NASA, but he wasn’t the right person: too aligned with the Democrats.’

Trump bitterly recalled the support he received from Musk in the past: ‘He said wonderful things about me, he wore a hat that said “Trump was right about everything”. He campaigned for me in Pennsylvania. Maybe I would have won anyway, but he knew the law well, he knew the details and he never raised any objections while he was there.’

Finally, a personal jab: ‘Maybe he misses this place. It happens to a lot of people: they leave and become hostile. I don’t know why.’
