Russian missiles strike a residential area in Zelensky’s hometown. More than 50 injured, including an infant

The death toll in the Russian missile attack that hit a residential area of Kryvyi Rih, the hometown of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, has risen to at least 18 dead — including nine children. The attack, among the most serious recorded in Moscow this year, sparked fires and devastated inhabited areas, as reported by the region’s governor Serhiy Lysak.

According to updated data, more than 50 people were injured, including more than 30 hospitalized: among them an infant just three months old. Rescue efforts are still ongoing, and the death toll may rise.

President Zelensky issued a new appeal to the West to step up pressure on Russia. “All Russian promises end in missiles, drones, bombs or artillery,” he said in his video address, stressing that ‘diplomacy means nothing’ to Moscow.

The Russian Defense Ministry justified the attack by saying it targeted a military gathering, a claim denied by the Ukrainian General Staff, which confirmed how the missile hit an area with civilian homes and a playground. After the main raid, Russian drones also reportedly hit private homes, causing fires in at least four parts of the city.
