North Korea sends arms and soldiers to support Russia in war against Ukraine

North Korea has sent around 200 long-range artillery pieces to Russia and is expected to send additional troops and weapons to support Moscow’s war against Ukraine. The news was confirmed by the South Korean Ministry of Defence, which shared its latest assessment of the collaboration between North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin, according to Yonhap news agency.

Military Support and Loss of North Korean Soldiers

Seoul’s intelligence agency (Nis) recently estimated that of the approximately 11,000 soldiers sent by North Korea to the Kursk front, about 300 were killed and about 2,700 were wounded. This figure underlines the heavy loss of life and significant involvement of North Korean forces in the conflict.

Challenging Geopolitical Dynamics

The cooperation between Kim Jong-un and Vladimir Putin raises international concerns, further complicating the already delicate geopolitical situation in the region. North Korea’s military support for Russia represents a disturbing escalation in international relations and could have profound implications for global security.
