Italian PM Meloni flying to Florida to meet Trump: Iran dossier and US relations

It will be an opportunity to discuss the Sala case and other strategic issues between Italy and the United States

Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni is flying to Florida, where she will meet US President-elect Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago. The meeting, scheduled before Inauguration Day, will not include Meloni’s participation in the official ceremony, as confirmed by diplomatic sources.

Among the central topics will be the issue of Cecilia Sala, the Italian journalist detained in Iran since 19 December in connection with the arrest of Iranian citizen Mohammed Abedini on a US warrant. On the agenda, ongoing conflicts, trade tariffs and relations between Italy and the EU will also be discussed.

The state flight with Meloni took off from Ciampino, with a technical stopover in Shannon, Ireland, before heading to the States.
