Magura V5 drone attack hit a Russian Mi-8 near Crimea. Tension rises with new Ukrainian attacks in Russia

The Ukrainian Armed Forces, speaking of a ‘historic attack’, claimed today the downing of a Russian Air Force helicopter by a naval drone, in an unprecedented action that took place over the Black Sea.

According to Ukrainian military intelligence, the attack was conducted by a Magura V5 drone armed with missiles, which shot down a Russian Mi-8 helicopter near the Crimean peninsula. The announcement was accompanied by a video of the shoot-down circulated on social media. During the fighting, a second Russian helicopter of the same type was hit but managed to return to base.

In another attack, the Ukrainian armed forces hit a fuel depot in the Smolensk region of western Russia, causing a fuel leak and fire. This was reported by the local governor, Vasily Anokhin.

One of the drones was shot down by Russian defence systems and its wreckage fell on the depot. Anokhin clarified via his Telegram account that there was no risk to residential areas.

The Russian Defence Ministry stated that 68 drones were shot down on Russian territory today, including ten in the Smolensk region. Meanwhile, the Russian Air Transport Agency announced the suspension of flights at Kazan airport, citing security reasons. In previous days, the airport had already suffered similar restrictions following attacks attributed to Ukraine.
