The Epstein case and Prince Andrew resurface after release of millions of files

Newly published U.S. court records revive questions over Prince Andrew’s past links to Jeffrey Epstein, including images and correspondence examined by British media

The Epstein case and Prince Andrew have returned to public attention following the disclosure of more than three million pages of judicial records connected to the investigation into American financier Jeffrey Epstein. The documents, made public by U.S. authorities, include photographs and correspondence that have prompted renewed scrutiny of the former Duke of York’s relationship with Epstein.

One image analyzed by British media shows Prince Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor positioned on his knees over a woman lying on the floor. The woman’s face has been blurred by the U.S. Department of Justice, and the file does not provide details regarding the date, location, or circumstances in which the photograph was taken.

The image has once again focused attention on the ties between the former senior royal and Epstein, who died in 2019 while awaiting trial on federal sex trafficking charges. Mountbatten-Windsor has repeatedly denied any involvement in criminal conduct, stating that he never observed or suspected inappropriate behavior.

Other photographs included in the document release depict Prince Andrew touching the same woman near her abdomen while she is fully clothed, and in another frame looking directly into the camera. As with the first image, no contextual information accompanies the photos.

The records also contain email exchanges from 2010 between Epstein and an account labeled “The Duke.” The messages reference plans for dinners and introductions, including an invitation to meet a 26-year-old Russian woman, sent years after Epstein had already entered a plea agreement related to the solicitation of minors. In one exchange, Epstein suggested a dinner meeting, to which Mountbatten-Windsor responded positively and requested contact information.

According to the BBC, the emails themselves “do not point to criminal activity,” but they confirm that communication between the two continued over time. This element has contributed to renewed discussion surrounding the Epstein case and Prince Andrew, which has remained a sensitive issue for the British monarchy.

A separate U.S. document dated 2020 shows that American investigators sought to interview Mountbatten-Windsor, identifying him as a potential witness or participant in events relevant to the inquiry. The same document clarified that Prince Andrew was not considered a formal target of the investigation and that no evidence of criminal wrongdoing had been established.

Prince Andrew has consistently denied allegations made against him, including claims by Virginia Giuffre that she was sexually assaulted by him. While he has said he never met her, a civil settlement was reached in 2022 without any admission of guilt. The publication of the latest records has nevertheless brought the Epstein case and Prince Andrew back into the international spotlight.
