US ready to test Minuteman III nuclear missile in the Pacific

Intercontinental test planned after Trump’s announcement on nuclear testing

The United States is preparing to conduct a new test of the Minuteman III nuclear missile, the first since President Donald Trump announced the resumption of nuclear testing. According to Newsweek, the launch of the unarmed intercontinental ballistic missile could take place between Wednesday and Thursday.

Minuteman III nuclear missile test

The Minuteman III nuclear missile will be launched from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California and will reach the Ronald Reagan Missile Defence Test Site on Kwajalein Atoll in the Marshall Islands in the central Pacific. The test will verify the efficiency and reliability of the US missile system.

A symbolic test after Trump’s announcement

The Minuteman III nuclear missile test has significant political and strategic value. It is the first since Trump announced the resumption of nuclear testing, ending a long moratorium that had lasted for years. The initiative could provoke international reactions, especially from Russia and China, which have already expressed concerns about the arms race.

Safety and debris fall zones

The Minuteman III nuclear missile will follow a trajectory that will cross five designated debris fall zones. The US authorities have issued specific navigation warnings to ensure the safety of maritime and air routes in the Pacific.
