Gunshots fired in the “Casas del Rio” student complex: authorities close the central campus in Albuquerque for safety reasons
A shooting shook the University of New Mexico on Friday, killing one person and injuring another. The shots were fired inside the “Casas del Rio” dormitory complex, one of the student accommodation facilities on the central campus in Albuquerque.
The university police responded immediately after receiving a report of gunshots and found two people with gunshot wounds. One of the victims died, while the other was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
As a precautionary measure, the university has temporarily closed the central campus. According to NBC News, the suspect has not yet been apprehended and may still be on campus.
The investigation is ongoing, and police have urged students and staff to stay safe and report any suspicious activity.
