Gaza Humanitarian Foundation blames Hamas for the deadly assault near Khan Younis. Some staff may have been taken hostage

A humanitarian aid bus operated by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) was attacked late yesterday evening in western Khan Younis, southern Gaza. The organization, which is privately run and supported by the United States, has blamed Hamas for the incident.

According to a statement released by GHF, the assault occurred around 10:00 p.m. local time as the bus was on its way to an aid distribution center. Onboard were more than twenty Palestinian staff members, all employed as humanitarian workers.

At least five people were killed in the attack, with many others injured. The organization also reported that some passengers may have been taken hostage, though details remain unclear at this time.

“We strongly condemn this brutal and deliberate attack. These were people who risked their lives every day to help others—fathers, brothers, sons, and friends,” the statement read.

The GHF began operations on May 26, after over two months of aid blockade by Israel, and claims to have already distributed more than seven million meals in Gaza.
