US president pushes to gain control of Arctic territory. Washington estimates price, despite Danish ‘No’ to deal

Donald Trump insists on the possibility of acquiring Greenland, and the White House has launched a cost analysis to estimate the financial impact of control over the Danish autonomous territory. According to the Washington Post, U.S. officials are examining the costs of managing the island, which today receives annual subsidies of about $600 million from Denmark.

Trump has declared that the United States will “get Greenland 100 percent” and hinted that it could do so without resorting to military force, while not ruling out any options. The White House is considering economic incentives to convince the Greenlanders, while Copenhagen remains firm in its refusal.

The Danish government, with Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen visiting the island, plans to strengthen ties with Greenland to counter pressure from Washington. Meanwhile, the Trump administration is aiming to prove that the island’s mineral resources could pay back the investment, though without certainty about the real economic benefits.
