Maria Corina Machado, a prominent Venezuelan opposition figure, has been released after being forcibly abducted, according to her party. The Comando Con Venezuela party stated that during her detention, Machado was forced to record several videos before finally being released.
Despite concerns raised by the opposition, the Venezuelan interior minister denied that Machado was arrested, describing the news as ‘a lie’ and ‘a fabrication’.
The incident occurred in Caracas, in the Chacao neighbourhood, as the leader was leaving a demonstration. On her way out, the motorbike she was on was intercepted, causing her to fall to the ground. Gunshots were reportedly heard at that moment, and Machado was taken by force. Her party has announced that in the coming hours the leader herself will clarify the details of the incident by speaking directly to the citizens.
