BBC protests against Apple over fake news about Luigi Mangione suicide spread via notification
The Apple Intelligence service generates an incorrect notification attributing fake news to the BBC: ‘Mangione committed suicide’, but this is not true
The BBC has formally protested against Apple after an artificial intelligence-generated notification, spread on some iPhones, contained fake news attributed to the British channel. The notification, spread through the new Apple Intelligence service, suggested that BBC News had published an article claiming that Luigi Mangione, arrested for the murder of Unite Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson, had committed suicide. The BBC expressed concern about the incident and stressed the importance of maintaining the reliability of its news.
Apple received a report and a strong protest from the BBC asking them to solve the problem.
