Strategic actions in the Golan Heights area. Overnight bombing of chemical weapons depot near Damascus

On Sunday, the Israeli army entered the demilitarised buffer zone in the Golan Heights to prevent threats from the insurgency that toppled Bashar al-Assad’s regime. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that Israel will not allow hostile forces to settle along the border.

The rise of HTS and Israeli concerns

Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), under the leadership of Abu Mohammad al-Jawlani, has taken control of Damascus. Although the group seeks to distance itself from al-Qaeda, Israel maintains high vigilance. The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) have been monitoring the Syrian border and preparing a response strategy, as stated by Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi.

Air strikes and strategic targets

According to Israeli media, the IDF conducted night raids on a chemical weapons depot near Damascus and on strategic sites to prevent them from falling into rebel hands. These attacks, which are not officially confirmed, reflect Israel’s focus on potential threats from the Syrian chaos.
