The US president denies rumours and postpones tariff increase by 90 days

No tariffs on gold. US President Donald Trump has confirmed that the precious metal will not be subject to new taxes, denying rumours sparked by an official document last week that sent prices soaring to record levels. ‘Gold will not be subject to tariffs,’ Trump wrote on Truth Social.

Trade truce extended. According to White House sources cited by CNBC and the Wall Street Journal, the president has signed an executive order extending the tariff truce with China by 90 days, postponing the tariff increase scheduled for Tuesday until 9 November.

Towards new negotiations. The goal, officials explain, is to allow more time for negotiations and a possible meeting in the autumn with Chinese leader Xi Jinping. Delegations from Washington and Beijing had already met last month in Sweden to discuss the postponement, talks described by both sides as ‘constructive.’
