The US president opposes Russia’s exclusion from the G8 and is open to China’s entry into the summit. Tensions with Carney over trade and tariffs

At the G7 summit currently underway in Canada, US President Donald Trump has made it known, according to sources cited by CBS News, that he does not want to sign the joint statement being prepared on the conflict between Israel and Iran. The draft document provided for monitoring of Iran’s actions and called on both sides to protect civilians and reopen dialogue for a peaceful solution.

‘Iran is not winning the war, it must return to talks immediately before it is too late,’ Trump said after a bilateral meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on the sidelines of the summit.

The US president immediately attracted attention with provocative statements: “The G7 was once the G8. Barack Obama and a guy named Trudeau didn’t want Russia anymore. It was a mistake to kick them out: without Putin, perhaps we wouldn’t have these problems today,” Trump said, referring to the conflict in Ukraine.

Not only that, he also proposed opening the summit to Beijing. ‘It wouldn’t be a bad idea to have China too. It’s the largest economy after the United States. If someone suggested it, it would be interesting to talk about it.’

On the trade front, Trump has made relations with Canada a priority. ‘I have my own idea about tariffs, Mark has a different one. We’ll see if we can reach an agreement.’

The Canadian prime minister interrupted the back-and-forth with journalists to prevent the press conference from degenerating into a lengthy monologue, as often happens at White House press conferences.
