Wheesung found dead at 43: investigation underway into alleged suicide

South Korean pop music loses one of its stars: Wheesung found dead

Renowned South Korean singer Wheesung, known for his powerful voice and hits that shaped the K-pop scene, was found dead in his Seoul home on 10 March. Police confirmed the discovery, which came after an emergency call from his mother, who had found him unconscious. No signs of violence were found, but the cause of death is still under investigation, with the prevailing hypothesis being suicide related to depression.

Wheesung, who was 43 years old, had seen his career take a drastic decline after a trial for the illicit use of propofol, which led to a suspended sentence. Despite his initial successes with albums such as ‘Like a Movie’ and ‘It’s Real’, his career has not been able to regain the success it once had. Tajoy Entertainment expressed deep sorrow at his untimely death, leaving a void in the country’s music scene.
