General Park An-su, former commander during the martial law imposed by President Yoon Suk Yeol, has been arrested. President Yoon is cooperating with the investigation into the imposition of the law

South Korean Army Chief of Staff General Park An-su has been arrested on charges of insurrection and abuse of power, the Yonhap news agency reported. The general had played a pivotal role as commander-in-chief during President Yoon Suk Yeol’s imposition of martial law, a measure that had aroused great controversy in the country.

The Seoul court issued an arrest warrant against the general, who is accused of being one of the key players in the uprising that led to martial law. The charges also include an alleged abuse of power.

Meanwhile, lawyers for President Yoon Suk Yeol, against whom parliament voted impeachment proceedings last Saturday, said the president would cooperate with the investigation. They also stated that Yoon did not commit insurrection and that allegations to that effect are not considered valid. However, they pledged to participate fully in the ongoing investigation.
