Fukushima Earthquake: 5.1 Magnitude Shock, No Tsunami Warning
Earthquake evokes memories of devastating 2011 event
A magnitude 5.1 earthquake struck the coast off Fukushima, Japan, with a hypocenter located at a depth of 40 km. The Japan Meteorological Agency reported the event, confirming that no tsunami warning has been issued. The quake inevitably brought to mind the dramatic earthquake of March 11, 2011, when a 9.1-magnitude quake struck the same area, triggering a devastating tsunami and causing one of the worst nuclear accidents in history at the Fukushima power plant.
