Trump warns Zelensky that his peace plan for Ukraine is not definitive; Geneva talks with US, Kyiv and European leaders scheduled
US President Donald Trump has made it clear that the Trump peace plan for Ukraine is “by no means” a final offer to Kyiv. “We want to achieve peace, something that should have happened long ago. If Zelensky rejects the plan, he can continue to fight until his few remaining forces are exhausted,” he told reporters on the White House lawn.
On Sunday, 23 November, talks are scheduled in Geneva between the United States, Ukraine and European leaders to discuss the Trump peace plan. Attendees include US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff, and US Army Secretary Daniel Driscoll. Italy will be represented by diplomatic advisor Fabrizio Saggio, participating at the level of National Security Advisor.
Ukrainian President Zelensky emphasised that Kyiv’s representatives understand the measures needed to protect the country and prevent another Russian invasion, stressing that the Trump peace plan is a starting point rather than a definitive solution.
On Monday, at the G20 in Angola, EU leaders will hold an extraordinary meeting on Ukraine. In a joint statement, Meloni and other G7 and EU leaders confirmed support for the Trump peace plan, reaffirming that borders cannot be changed by force and highlighting the importance of international coordination to ensure sustainable peace.
At the G20 sidelines, the “willing” leaders on Ukraine – including Meloni, France, Germany, the UK, Norway, Canada, Japan, Australia, Finland, Ireland, the Netherlands, and Spain, alongside European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen – discussed the next steps for implementing the Trump peace plan and providing continued support to Ukraine.
